Hornytoads

Friday, April 21st, 2006

It was a great summer’s day, James popped out from nowhere with his cousin Ely who tagged along. Ely, a bar tender and barista, has been abroad for like three or more years, spendig his time mostly in Dubai. He spent  half a year today here in the Philippines wating for his next flight back. He was leaving for Dubai the next day.

Image583_1Ely had just flown in from their native land "Be Cool City" after spending 6 or so months of vacationing. James had planned some small celebration just before Ely’s flight back to work, or at least he said he had. Anyways, a bottle of tequilla (compliments of Bryan) was available for that evening from a beer treat he pulled a couple of nights before.

Horny_toadsWe consumed tequilla alongside some calamasi soda and some nuts for grub earlier that night and enjoyed past memories of the bars where Ely used to work in locally. How we lavishly enjoyed each’s house beer as Ely provided us with generous amouts to consume each and every night we visited him. For us then, literally the beer was "on the house". Its a good thing no one got drunk. Hehehe those were the days! The tequilla had it’s distinctive bite which blended well with the citrus flavor the calamansi soda. The liquor’s bite was quite faint and needed less of the salt and so we went on totally without it. It would be perfect to pair it with some local beer since it was quite a strong spirit.

StageUpon consuming the liter, we headed straight to a KTV bar at Paco Manila James and I bragged to Ely about. We had a couple of beers to wash down the strong tequilla, and had crispy pata to accompany it with as we enjoyed our stay. The head waitress introduced us to a couple of their beautiful GRO’s Karen and Kathy to accompany us on our stay. All in all, we had a great time as the 5 of us laughed and giggled Karen_cathyas we passed around jokes and funny memories of our crazy days at some bars in the past. It was 3 a.m. and the bar had to come to a close.

We still had some energy left and decided to look for another place where we could chill out. And so we headed to some French bar at Malate. We downed a couple of beers while watching a few half naked and tipsy young college girls having fun at the bar. Promoters_ktvAs the girls danced, we enjoyed watching comfortably seated on some throwpillows which served as seats as we lounged on the mezzanine floor (Japanese style), while the monotonous trance music flooded the room. Such a sight! Althogether then, unmindful of the time we found ourselves seated inside James’ car on our way home.

On_our_way_1We trully enjoyed ourselves and wished we had a few more friends to join us that night. I bet Ely would miss this one after his flight that next day.

Bon Voyage Connoisseur Ely! RACCOON!
